What shifts occur when an audience moves from passive observation to embodied participation? How can inner perceptual experience resonate with and be shaped by a shared audiovisual environment?This 10-minute multimedia performance invites the audience into an unexplored universe through a synthesis of live music, visual imagery, and guided breathwork. Led by a live facilitator, the audience begins with collective square breathing, establishing a shared rhythm that centres attention and opens an inward, receptive perceptual space. Sustained through breath, the work unfolds as an audiovisual journey in which sound, image, and facilitation form a coherent whole. The piece reimagines performance as a participatory encounter, foregrounding breath and collective attention as artistic materials and positioning the audience’s inner perceptual landscape as a cities and homes? My master thesis project explores the concept of paradise in the utopian and specifically ecotopian tradition, with a focus on illustration and animation. In the dance between fantasy and reality, my aim is to explore the theme of alternative sustainable futures through animation, installation art and illustration. The installation and publication ‘Hätä’ take you to the future, aiming to foster collective imaginations of sustainable futures amidst climate anxiety and political challenges, such as the rise of far-right politics and climate change denial. The fictional story in the publication is based on anonymous letters about ecotopias that I collected during the years of 2023-2025. Through the portal that holds a fabric full of the handwritten letters, one can enter the year of 2031. At a time when political polarization, healthcare shortages and climate refugees are transforming society, we need spaces where we can imagine together an equal and harmonious society. A place to connect. When a place is staged for dialogue, it becomes performative and transformative. The place is transformed into a process and seed of action. By considering this installation as a conversation starter for alternative futures, I see it as a portal to promote peace. The history of the various ecotopias is as long as humanity itself, and each ecotopia is a unique product of its time, yet closely linked to its predecessors. At a time when natural disasters, climate refugees and care deficits are transforming the society, new ways and solutions must be found to build community and living conditions. I asked questions around this topic in a letter form and people could answer and drop their thoughts to the box.
