An insightful essay by Ylva Gustafsson dealt with the standardization of empathy in healthcare industry and education. Since I previously in my life worked as a part-time careworker, I reflected on my personal experiences of facing a person needing help - either through the attempt of fully understanding the human being or as a clinical list of diagnoses and numbers. The latter seems to unfortunately be the way many healthcare workers and students have to see their patients due to lack of staff and economical cuts.
